Program Associate, +BOX

Equation Collaborative is looking for a part-time Program Associate to support day-to-day +BOX program operations. +BOX is a nutrition security program that delivers reliable access to healthy food for food insecure students and their families. 


Equation Collaborative is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization on a mission to equalize opportunities for a healthy and dignified life. In pursuit of our mission, Equation Collaborative manages +BOX, a program launched in April 2020 that works alongside schools to distribute boxes of fresh, healthy, nutrient rich food to food insecure students and their families in San Diego. Last year, +BOX distributed 19,275 boxes with 78,450 servings and over 230,000 pounds of healthy food to families who don’t have enough food to meet their basic needs.


The Program Associate will support and manage the day-to-day +BOX operations, which may include coordinating and staffing warehouse deliveries, food pick-up from suppliers and non-profit partners, weekly box assemblies/Pack-Outs, and +BOX food distributions. The Program Associate will be part of a small team that makes a significant and meaningful impact on the community. The ideal candidate will be well organized, be able to manage multiple tasks simultaneously, have excellent communication skills, and be able to work both independently and within a team environment.


The Program Associate will:

  • Coordinate and support activities and events at the +BOX warehouse, including food and materials deliveries, volunteer events and weekly box assemblies/pack-outs.

  • Coordinate and support +BOX logistics, including food pick-up (from San Diego Food Bank, etc.) and +BOX community distributions/deliveries. This will include driving, loading, and unloading a 14 foot box truck.

  • Support +BOX warehouse health and safety guidelines, ensure the space remains clean, food is stored appropriately, and volunteers are following the health and safety code of conduct.

  • Manage and coordinate food and materials inventory, advise the Director of Strategic Partnerships on inventory levels, ordering requests, and scheduling of deliveries.


Qualifications:

  • Associates or Bachelors degree (completed or in-progress) in public policy/administration, business, nonprofit management, nutrition/health, operations management, or other related fields. 

  • An interest in nonprofit management, community service, hunger relief, food/nutrition, and/or education. 

  • 1+ years of professional work experience (including any internships, full-time/part-time positions, etc.).

  • A self-starter able to work independently to complete projects and tasks, sometimes with little direction or supervision.  

  • Excellent communication skills.

  • Ability to occasionally lift heavy objects (eg, 50 pound bags of produce)

  • Possession of a valid California driver's license

  • Based in the San Diego area, North County preferred.


Compensation & Details:

  • $20/hour, approximately 25-30 hours per week

  • Sponsored food handler training & certification (optional)
