Program Coordinator, +BOX

Equation Collaborative is looking for a Program Coordinator to support +BOX, a food assistance program that provides essential nutrition to as many food insecure families as possible. 

Equation Collaborative is an early stage nonprofit that strengthens communities by creating and managing programs that work alongside community partners to increase capacity, access, and opportunity. Last year, Equation Collaborative launched +BOX, a program designed to reduce food insecurity by working alongside school districts to supplement school nutrition programs with fresh nutrient rich foods for students and their families. Since it’s launch in April 2020, +BOX has donated over 18,750 boxes with over 76,000 servings and 225,000 pounds of fresh, healthy, and nutritious food to food insecure students and families in collaboration with 3 North County San Diego school districts.

The Program Coordinator will support and manage the day-to-day operations of +BOX, which may include coordinating and staffing warehouse deliveries, food pick-up, weekly box assemblies/pack-outs, and +BOX distributions. The Program Coordinator will be part of a small team that makes a significant and meaningful impact on the community. The ideal candidate will be well organized, be able to manage multiple tasks simultaneously, have excellent communication skills, and be able to work both independently and within a team environment.

The Program Coordinator will:

  • Coordinate and support activities and events at the +BOX warehouse, including food and materials deliveries, volunteer events and weekly box assemblies/pack-outs.

  • Coordinate and support +BOX logistics, including food pick-up (from San Diego Food Bank, etc.) and +BOX community distributions/deliveries. This will likely include driving, loading, and unloading a 14 foot cargo truck.

  • Support +BOX warehouse health and safety guidelines, ensure the space remains clean, food is stored appropriately, and volunteers are following the health and safety code of conduct.

  • Coordinate food and materials inventory, advise the Executive Director on inventory levels, ordering, and scheduling of deliveries.

  • Support the Executive Director with other projects, as needed.


  • Associates or Bachelors degree in public policy/administration, business, nonprofit management, nutrition/health, operations management, or other related fields.

  • An interest in nonprofit management, community service, hunger relief, food/nutrition, and/or education. 

  • 1+ years of collective work experience (including any internships, full-time/part-time positions, etc.)

  • A self-starter able to work independently to complete projects and tasks, sometimes with little direction or supervision.  

  • Excellent communication skills.

  • Ability to lift heavy objects

  • Possession of a valid California driver's license

  • Based in the San Diego area, North County preferred.

Compensation & Details:

  • $2500/month, up to 30 hours per week

  • Sponsored food handler training & certification

  • Flexible work schedule (some evenings and weekends may be necessary)
