Assistant Director

Equation Collaborative is looking for an experienced nonprofit leader to serve as Assistant Director, providing leadership, guidance and support for programming, development, and operations. 


Equation Collaborative is an early stage nonprofit that strengthens communities by creating and managing programs that work alongside community partners to increase capacity, access, and opportunity. Last year, Equation Collaborative launched +BOX, a program designed to reduce food insecurity by working alongside school districts to supplement school nutrition programs with fresh nutrient rich foods for students and their families. Since our launch in April 2020, +BOX has provided over 18,750 free boxes with over 76,000 servings and 225,000 pounds of fresh, healthy, and nutritious foods to food insecure students and families in collaboration with 3 different school districts.


The Assistant Director will work closely with the Executive Director to develop and implement a long term strategic plan to drive sustainable growth. The Assistant Director may be called upon as a resource for fundraising, operational efficiency, program management, board relations, staff management, and other critical components of the organization. This is an opportunity for an experienced nonprofit professional to make a significant impact on the shape and direction of an early stage nonprofit with ambitious goals to reduce food insecurity.


The Assistant Director will:

  • Serve as a collaborator and senior advisor to the Executive Director.

  • Provide leadership, guidance, and management in the development and execution of fundraising activities.

  • Support the Executive Director to build and foster external relations (community, government, funder, public, and partner relations).

  • Provide leadership and guidance to program management staff, specifically related to budgeting, operations, and volunteer management.

  • Own, lead, and coordinate special projects that impact all aspects of the organization from inception to completion.

  • Provide support and guidance to the Executive Director regarding board relations/development, staff development, budgeting, and other administrative items.


Qualifications:

  • 6-8 years experience in nonprofit management. 

  • 4+ years experience in executive leadership/management.

  • Proven success in developing a nonprofit organization or program from concept to sustainability.

  • Experience managing, developing, and/or executing a fundraising strategy, preferably focused in the San Diego area.

  • An affinity for testing and evaluating solutions and approaches to developing various functional areas of the organization (eg, fundraising, supply chain/operations, etc.). 

  • A creative problem solver willing to think outside the box, consider multiple perspectives, and engage others in brainstorming and ideation.

  • Experience in organizations addressing food insecurity, nutrition, food justice, community based farming, hunger relief or similar areas preferred but not required.

  • A sincere desire to manage and run all aspects of major projects like +BOX as we expand into new program areas where we are needed.

  • Based in the San Diego area, North County preferred.
